On Wednesday the 25th of June we organize the first Anarchist Black Cross evening at the Klinker. The first you say? Yes, because from now on the ABC evening will not only be about writing prisoners but we want to make it more alive. So every 4th Wednesday of the month will have a kind of a theme and loads of info, documentaries, food, music, cards and as usual cool people from ABC Nijmegen will be at the bar to answer your questions and get you drinks. Soup will start at 18.30, the ABC evening at 19.30 and we will be open till at least 23.00.

It’s time to share information and ideas about the recent developments in the Dutch prison system en the necessity of abolitionist struggle. Lately news on prisons has been in the media a lot. News like the ridicule idea that inmates are going to have to pay to be incarcerated, but also a call for heavier punishments in general. The prison system is undergoing a process of far reaching privatization. The state intends to make the prisons financially self-sufficient. In summer 2013 members of several ABC groups discussed the necessity of introducing an International Day for Anarchist Prisoners. Given there are already established dates for Political Prisoners Rights Day or Prison Justice Day, we found it important to emphasise the stories of our comrades as well. Many imprisoned anarchists will never be acknowledged as ‘political prisoners’ by formal human-rights organisations, because their sense of social justice is strictly limited to the capitalist laws which are designed to defend the State and prevent any real social change. At the same time, even within our individual communities, we know so little about the repression that exists in other countries, to say nothing of the names and cases involving many of our incarcerated comrades.

ABC-Nijmegen and the AGN set up a soli-campaign for Jock Palfreeman

Anarchist Black Cross Nijmegen (ABC-Nijmegen) and the Anarchist Group Nijmegen (AGN) are starting a solidarity campaign for Jock Palfreeman.

While writing, Jock Palfreeman is already more then 5 years imprisoned in Sofia, Bulgaria for aiding two young Romani-boys when they were under attack from a group of right-wing hooligans. Palfreeman came into a fight with the group of fascists and two of his attackers got injured of whom one died later from his injuries. Continue reading →

Anarchist Black Cross Nijmegen (ABC-Nijmegen) en Anarchistische Groep Nijmegen (AGN) zijn in solidariteit met en op verzoek van Jock Palfreeman begonnen met het op touw zetten van een solidariteitscampagne voor hem.

Terwijl wij dit schrijven zit Jock Palfreeman inmiddels al meer dan 5 jaar gevangen in Sofia (Bulgarije) voor het helpen van twee Roma-jongens die werden aangevallen door een groep extreemrechtse hooligans. Palfreeman raakte hierop in een gevecht met de groep fascisten en twee van zijn belagers raakten gewond. Één van hen overleed later aan zijn verwondingen. Continue reading →

January 22nd… Writing night to Marie Mason

On the 22nd of January we will spend the whole evening writing birthday cards to Marie Mason, on the 26th of januari she will turn 52.

Marie Mason is a loving mother of two and a long-time activist in the environmental and labor movements. In March 2008, she was arrested by federal authorities for charges related to two acts of property destruction that occurred in 1999 and 2000 – damaging an office connected to GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) research, and destroying a piece of logging equipment. No one was injured in either act. She faced a life sentence before accepting a plea bargain in September 2008.
